Greetings, O Honorable Spriters!
Let me greet you to a new fanclub, The Spriter's Compendium. In this Fanclub we celebrate all that we achieve in our spriting endeavors and are excited to share all of our successes, hardships, and even our knowledge to those around us.
Because of the strength of our skills we can achieve new forms outside of our own, accessing further forms as our skills increase.
I know that there are many people that exist in the world who still do not fully know the joys of spriting. They don't have the necessary skills, however no one shall be turned away at the Compendium simply for a lack of skills. This is why we have this place, yes? To learn and share! So please, continue on and don't let my talons scare you.
Simply remember that no matter what one must always follow the rules. I, Scarrvyn, will know if you break them and you will no longer be accepted in the Compendium. So please, make sure you understand the rules or I shall smite thee!
Serbolt's Discussions The lovely and gorgeous Serbolt is gracing you with her presence, the least you could do is bow properly you know. My, you Compendium people seem like such an unruly bunch. Ah, I don't see how my master stands you. But stand you she does, perhaps even hold you in high favor...?
But that isn't my place in my master's Compendium. I am here to offer you the discussion topic for this week. What is a weekly discussion topic you may ask? Why, it's what you Compendium members can focus on talking about! You folks surely have lots of artwork stories to tell each other, don't you...? But please. Don't talk about it with me as I have far more important beauty works to be dealing with.
This week's discussion topic is if you were learning a new spriting style how would you prefer to learn it?
How does one Join? This is Jolcune here with the rules on joining this spriting club. Make sure you pay attention and use the form I will give you correctly! Anyone who doesn't will be Bubblebeam'd out until they fix their mistakes.
When you're applying to the fanclub make sure that you answer the discussion question directly above.

Several people can tutor over the same thing, everyone has their own styles of teaching as well as how they sprite. The student can have a wide variety of different ways to go about spriting through this.

Darkvee's Suggestion World
Kehehe, welcome to my world of shadows young spriters... What is that? This place, what is it for you ask? Well, you see, my master is young in the ways of running a Compendium. There is such vastness in this task that she doesn't know what all is required, or what the fellows of the club will wish of her. Therefore it is my duty to ensure that you understand that it is acceptable to inform her of events or different things you would like to see added into this Compendium.
You may even tell her that something is simply not working for you. Don't be shy, kehe, my master doesn't bite. ...Well, usually.
You wish to offer a suggestion you say? Well then, please leave a message. Kehe... I'll be... sure... my master receives it. That's right, simply use that little keyboard you see in front of you, oh please don't ask me where it came from, kehe, and leave her a message.
Was that all you wished to suggest? Thank you, eh-heh-heh, and do have a nice day.

Vaportei's Gemstones- Inside Ah, I'm glad that you've arrived at my shop. That was quite a quick teleport, was it not? However I see that you're a bit uneasy. If you wish to leave the shop you may do so here: What exactly do we have available in this fine shop? What a good question you ask! This shop, as we gain more dedicated artists, can host a variety of spriting and artwork sales. Currently we have one person working in my shop, TwistedLover.
You claim that you don't have any gemstone currency on your person? You may very well be incorrect, why don't you check your cave? If you find that your resources are not sufficient then please feel free to request items from my friend, Uokarei. He knows all the actions you can take to earn more gemstones.
The items that you can purchase from me currently are limited to-
Extra Forms (Avatars)- 1000 gemstones Rank Up- 4000 gemstones
TwistedLover's sales: Recolors- 100 Gems Fusions- 100 Gems Custom trainers- 2000 gems Trainer fusions- 500 gems Avatars- 1000 gems Banners- 1000 gems Please note that my dear master may very well decide to add more items if she pleases. If you have suggestions for what she might add to her selection here feel free to give her a PM. Some of the items are pricy, you say? Well, that's simply because my master does have to do other things and some items are a little harder than others. Or they might be considered more special within the club itself. Do you think that you would like to have a small cove within my shop to sell your own wares? Workers are always welcome here, I'm afraid I do get lonely when it's only myself and my master around. And I always love seeing what beautiful work you spriters come up with, you see I have no paws and cannot make anything myself. Any time I accept payment on your behalf you will receive the gemstones from me once I ascertain that they are valid. I... I don't know what my master is looking at me like that for, I don't just enjoy the feel of the gemstones in my paws. Let us move on, simply join my shop if you wish to obtain gemstones for services to your fellow spriters! You wish to return to where you came from? Simply go here.

King Tutangross' Archive- Inside As king know that I will only accept work that is quality. Please do not show me any work that has basic mistakes such as recoloring and fusing where the original colors are still showing through or the sprites are poorly fused. I will also accept regular artwork such as drawings and sketches. These artworks I will lower my standards for, even simple sketches are acceptable here.
Perhaps you would like to send in some artwork for your own section?
You wish to return to the outside world? Very well, click here.

Floatfur's Tutoring Well well, here you are I see. Wanting to learn how to sprite? Or have difficulty with a certain type of spriting? Well you came to the right place. I'll show you who's willing to tutor you in certain areas and you can decide to PM them for help. Or ask it here on the compendium if you want. Form What I want to learn: Who to learn it from: What spriting skills I already have: Examples of some sprites I've done: Beginning Classes Trainee Classes Disguises/Costumes Making one Pokemon look like another through recoloring and some scratching sometimes. TwistedLover- I'll focus more on the scratching aspects of disguises. Some examples of work you could learn to do are-
Expert Classes Scratching Creating a sprite without using another as a base. TwistedLover
This class will focus on my main scratching skills, which is to turn a sketch into a scratch sprite. Essentially turning this-

If I were to learn a new spriting technique, I would probably like to learn it by watching someone else do it and then I mimic it, or someone lists a step by step process with pictures for each specific step. When I see someone else physically sprite, I can see what they are actually doing and I can replay something over and over again until I completely understand what they did. With picture steps, there is usually more reasoning to each step and picture in particular with really helps me because I like to know the importance of the step to the overall technique done on the sprite. So if I were to learn a new spriting style, it would be by either watching a recording/livestream of the tutorial or a detailed step by step picture process. Username: Intel Sprite Avatar (Image, your OWN creation): Why are you joining: I would like to participate in this fanclub because I could still use some improvement in my spriting skills and I enjoy giving constructive critique to other spriters. I also enjoy being in a setting with others with similar interests such as spriting. How do you wish to improve in your skills: I hope that I can build my scratch spriting skills by entering contests and adding to my archive. How do you wish to enlighten others for their own skills: I have a strong foundation of the essentials to spriting, and I can spot most common sprite flaws that can benefit other members' sprites. Nicknames of choice: Intel/Inny Any other information necessary: Scarrvyn please don't hurt me ;A; I promise to abide by the rules!

Username: sonic20 Sprite Avatar (Image, your OWN creation): Why are you joining: Still looking to improve my general skills! I've certainly gotten better, but I still need to work on shading, somewhat pallette (i apparently hurt the eyes without noticing) and scratching. How do you wish to improve in your skills: Probably by participating in contests once again, and putting some of my most recent sprite work up for critique, to find out what I need to do. How do you wish to enlighten others for their own skills: My main strong point isn't actually pokemon sprites, but I seem to have an unusual amount of skill in sonic sprites? I suppose I could help people with different kind of sprites, or maybe old NES style ones. Nicknames of choice: Sonic Any other information necessary: Hopefully I won't break a rule by accident

I apologize, it's just I can't really think about any kind of interesting artwork story involving me, and I also was in a little bit of a hurry to finish that forum.
Edit: misread the discussion topic thing, but still can't put this one in words yet. I'll put it down as soon as I've got it.

Discussion question: Going to answer this quickly, but the way I tackle new styles is to jump in, find examples of the style, and sprite away. Then I ask folks to see if the style looks right, and keep on refining from there. Tutorials and guides help a lot here too. Username: TheoreticalSelkie Sprite Avatar: Why are you joining: I would like to improve spriting like always and offer helpful critique to other members of this fanclub ;3 How do you wish to improve in your skills: Practice practice practice (with a lot of critiques thrown in) How do you wish to enlighten others for their own skills: Finding tutorials and critiques <3 Nicknames of choice: Selkie is fine Any other information necessary: Can't think of anything else.

Username: DarkNerd, at your service Sprite Avatar (Image, your OWN creation): Why are you joining: I was in the old one, and despite breaking the economy (twice, no less), I still did not fully accomplish my goals. Expect a bit more from me this time around. How do you wish to improve in your skills: I plan to get better scratching skills, as well as learn how to draw four-legged animals' legs. Also learn new techniques and types of spritings so I can increase my artist portfolio. How do you wish to enlighten others for their own skills: Not sure what this means. I plan on creating a tutorial and becoming a tutor for zombie-making and Ham-Ham-ifying. Nicknames of choice: Darky, DNerd, DarkN, Dark, Nerd, Darknerd, Darkinini, Toj, and Lt. Nerd. Any other information necessary: Uh... I like food and a challenge? But I'm also a very busy guy at the moment. Hopefully by New Year's I'll be less busy. I try to develop a wide range of styles and then focus on a few and develop them a lot. Now, first a question- are you going to extend the contest deadlines? Now, the discussion topic- I prefer to do as I do in most non-platformer video games- suicidally run straight into the fiery abyss. To explain, my first animated sprite was Jack-O-Bomber, my first spriteover was of a pie and candy based spider, and my first sprite was a mostly scratched legendary spider dragon which held it's place as my most popular sprite for almost 2 years. I generally just dive into whatever it is and learn as I go. I just so happen to dive into the deep section of the pool. Lava pool. With piranha-sharks. And grenades.

Sonic- That's fine, take whatever time you need to figure out how you want to answer the discussion question.
Selkie- I'm looking forward to what else you're going to do here, especially with how good you already are.
Dark- Yes, I'm going to be extending the three contests until the 12th. At first I wasn't sure what I was going to end up doing with it since there weren't really any members. However for right now I'll see what happens when we reach the 12th and whether or not it's going to need to be extended after that as well.
That seems to be one of the ways that people end up doing spriting styles. I'm curious, do you just jump in trying to figure it out as you go or would you have read some tutorials if they were available for the style and then jump in with whatever knowledge you have from the tutorial and work it out from there?
Aqua- You'll simply want to answer the discussion question on your next post please. However I've added you in. Welcome to the club!

The main reason I couldn't think of this is because I've been having absurd writer's block recently, but here it is:
I think my best way of describing it is Trial & Error. I usually jump headfirst into these things, and instantly try my first example. It's either really bad, or somewhat good, and I continue from there. I usually prefer to work on better versions of/or expanding the "first example" and going from there, proceeding to do more if I find interest in doing it. An example is the fact I hadn't touched a sonic sprite until a certain OC character I was working on, and from there I went to sonic battle sprites, fully recoloring, scratching some sections, and ultimately just improving my skills. That's all I can really say.

Discussion's topic: When I sprite, I really like to design my characters so they are much different from each other. I find many different method good for doing this. I really like focusing on the sprite series part of spriting, so this is very helpful for me.
