Many of us here are into gaming, or at least used to be. After all, Pokemon is what brought us all here together. But most of us also enjoy games that are not Pokemon related at all. That is what this topic is here to discuss. What games do you like to play that are not Pokemon related? Why do you like to play those games?
For me, I enjoy playing the Castlevania series and the Legend of Zelda series. Out of these, my favorite for each series is Castlevania for the N64 and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. As you can probably guess, I am a huge fan of the N64.
I usually really dislike harder games, and the Castlevania series is infamous for being unusually hard. Despite this though, I have really come to enjoy the series. Even though the gameplay is tough at best, I enjoy the fighting and I think it has a pretty unique plot. The graphics are also very enjoyable. The character designs are lovely as well.
As for LoZ: OoT, it means a lot to me sentimentally. It was the very first video game I ever played. While I did not own an N64 (or a 3DS for that matter) until years later, I played it a lot on my cousin's N64 and I enjoyed every second of it. The graphics, the land it is played in, the lack of a leveling system, all of it. My favorite part of it is probably the plot, as plots are my main interest in games.
So, there is my answer. What is yours?
pretty much copy and pasted this from my PP thread but oh well ;3

I think if I had to pick a single non-Pokemon game right now to be my favorite it would have to be the Disgaea games. They're always incredibly witty and not above making fourth-wall jokes. When they go into a new chapter they never really actually tell you what's going on, it's always some silly dialogue between the characters on some random subject.
Like in the fourth game the main character will always spend the "episode preview" between chapters time by giving you random facts about sardines, of which he is incredibly obsessed with.
Outside of the great humor of the series would be the gameplay itself. It's really level-grind based and can take some time to actually get past levels because you had to keep fighting earlier levels to keep going. And then once you clear the story? Hoo boy. Be prepared for even more content to just suck away the rest of your hours. You can level grind your characters up to level 9,999 and then reincarnate them to start all over again from level 1 with boosted stats. Repeat as many times as you like until you max out the stats, including other ways to go about doing that as well.
And then there's the other post-game content that requires you to be super leveled for. Like on Disgaea 4 there's an "X-Dimension" version of every level you played through in the story mode. Except there's tons of strategy involved and the enemy levels are super high, requiring you to... you guessed it. Once again go level grinding to get more stats and beat them down just to finish that part.
And then you can level your items as well, and assign "innocents" to the items to boost stats and such. Suffice to say the games are a huge timesink and are great for people who enjoy trying to accomplish as much as they can outside of the story itself. Which is right up my alley!

I would have to go with the Borderlands series. I live FPS games, and I love RPGs, and they beautifully combine the two. Playing either if the games with a friend or two on your side just makes it better.
My favorite aspect is how the game is merely a campaign, but with missions and an open ish world. The anoint if glitches are insane, but they're fun glitches, and discovering them always makes for a good laugh.

I've been branching off into new genres within the past year or so and I'm mainly picking the best games from that genre, so best game is really hard to answer right now. Though, recent games I've been enjoying have been a couple of the titles in Zelda, Wind Waker HD and Link Between Worlds. Both games are really amazing, and have a huge opportunity to just explore the map instead of getting any real progress done. Link Between Worlds especially, as it gives you most of the items at the beginning of the game and lets you go nuts on the overworld. Wonderful 101 is an amazing action game and if you own a Wii U, buy it. No, this isn't a joke, go buy it as soon as possible. I'm mainly saying this because its sales tanked and this game really does not deserve it. I want people to support this. Buy Wonderful 101. *ahem* I'm just going to drop a link to the intro video here to explain the premise. Most of the bad reviews come from the game having poor controls. However, this is not the case. The controls require a lot of getting used to and adjustment, but a couple of operations in and you should probably have them down fine. The characters in this game are great, but where this shines is just how over the top this game gets. Get used to saying "I can't believe they actually put this in the game," because you will say that a lot. I haven't finished it yet, due to it being a long game, but the ending is said to be the coolest ending to a video game of all time. The whole game is just a lot of fun, and I highly recommend it. Divekick is a two button fighting game. The only moves are dive, kick, kickback, and each character gets a special. The only move in the entire game is Divekicking. The premise sounds simple, but each character is different enough to make each matchup unique. We got a skunkbear mother who can jump and kick extremely quickly, but has a small angle on her kicks. We got one guy who's kicks don't actually do any damage, but the lightning he shoots does. Every hit OHKO's the opponent, each match is five wins, and each round is 20 seconds. Divekick is on a couple of different platforms, I know for certain PC, Vita, and PS3 have it, and it's just a dumb little indie game that's actually a lot of fun. Great for parties!!! Star Wars Battlefront II. Just downloaded it a couple of months ago. Probably my favorite multiplayer FPS, and I don't usually enjoy those types of games. The game is totally broken and not balanced at all, and this is because they packed as much Star Wars crap as they could in. It just makes the game. The thing I like about this game is that it fills up teams 16-16 with bots, so that there is a lot going on at all times. The conquest game mode is interesting because the goal is to capture spawn points, and if the enemy can't spawn anywhere, you win. This is interesting, because you have multiple lines of players and bots attacking rather than whoever notices the other first wins. You can be the best player on your team and still get mowed down if the enemy is in a group, but vice versa can also happen if the worst player is in a group. Plus the starfighter combat not only lets you shoot down other fighters, but also bomb the enemy ships or even board them. There's so much fun stuff to do in this game that it doesn't get old. These are only the games I can think of off the top of my head, I'm tired now. Anyway, all of these are fun games to check out!

I'm a platform gamer really, so as always I'm all over the Sonic games. I really like Rayman too but it's been a really long time since I've played that, always got stuck on a level called Band Land. BLECH.
I really like Minecraft and Terraria as well. They're sandbox games that are platforming and RPG all in one. Minecraft is 3d, and Terraria is similar to Minecraft but is 2d and has a few more RPG features.
As always, Mario. Can't go wrong with Mario!

Hoshi, I'm a huge fan of the Nintendo 64 too! Some of the best games came from that console (Super Mario 64, Zelda Ocarina of Time) whilst new series emerged from the console too (Super Smash Bros, Paper Mario)!
The Mario series would have to come in as number one to me. The first videogame I played was Super Mario All Stars for the SNES. The game was actually a remake of the original NES Mario platformers: Super Mario Bros 1-3 with the addition of Lost Levels (originally released in Japan only due to the apparent 'difficulty' that would have been experienced by American gamers, the next market for the game to tap into). The first videogame I owned myself was Super Mario 64. So the series has sentimental value to me! I was so happy when Super Mario All Stars was ported for the Wii! I was literally walking around K Mart and I saw it. So good. :')
Paper Mario is my favourite videogame to date. The whole concept of 2D characters interacting in a 3D world is awesome! Graphics are very cute being that everything is made out of paper and coloured accordingly. I love how Paper Mario was the first game to properly explore the Mushroom Kingdom as the in settlements where different characters live (Toad Town, Yoshi Village, Shiver City, etc), interact and such. :3 The storyline is engaging, though I just wish there was a post game plot like in Thousand Year Door for Gamecube. D: Once you defeat Bowser (final time), the next time you turn on you are saved right before the battle! I was keen to see everyone happy that the status quo had returned! ;(

@tidal, Rayman is the best modern platformer of all time. I need to get Rayman Legends cause Origins was the absolute best.
My favorite platformer has to be Crash Bandicoot though, it's nostalgia for me, first game I ever played, and they're tough, but so much fun. Shame they don't make them anymore.
