Favorite Movie Genre
We've all seen different types of movies and the genres that each movie fit into. Things like comedy, drama, action, horror, syfy, thriller, suspense, supernatural, romance. Movies can even fit in more than one genre, just to mix things up and make them better.
I'm curious which movie genre happens to be your favorite, or is it a mix of genres that you enjoy?
Personally I'm not one for the romance genre, it's not entirely interesting to me. Sure I enjoyed movies like 50 First Dates but it's not something I would watch on my own, only if someone else turned it on. It's not that I didn't like the movie I just wouldn't look it up on my own.
The genre that happens to be my absolute favorite would be Horror. And syfy. A mix of the two is even better. Which would probably be why some of my favorite movies happen to be from the Syfy channel, even though they're silly they're still great to just sit back and enjoy. So long as you're not picky about special effects and silly storylines at times, which usually I'm not.
A few of the movies I can remember off the top of my head which fit within these guidelines would be Sharknado (Which I'm watching right now, hehe! Thank you Netflix for having this silly movie), Pandorum (Another great movie, really gets you thinking and trying to figure out what's going to happen next), The Collection, and some of the more well-known series like Alien and Predator.
The reason why I enjoy the horror genre so much is because usually it gets you invested in the characters on a life or death scale, tugging on your emotions more than romance or most other types of movies. Romance movies for me tend to end either one of two ways "They get together" or "It doesn't work out". Horror movies don't have to follow this. Anyone can die, even the main character if the movie is willing to go there.
One of the more silly horror movies that I've seen was the series Feast. In the movie it focuses on a bar where everyone has to hide inside from monsters attacking. At the very beginning a man comes in and announces he will protect everyone and then the movie has a special thing where it focuses in on him and labels him "the hero". And then almost immediately afterwards a monster breaks through the window and drags him out and kills him. There goes our hero! And then a girl comes in and is then labeled the hero and survives through the entire movie, pulling off a great and hilarious bait-and-switch that it doesn't seem like a lot of movies manage to pull off.
There's also a thing where it seems like many of the characters that are my favorite within a movie will die, which is sad for me. At this point I kind of expect my favorite to end up dying (Typically because they're not the main character) and am more than pleased whenever they don't.
So what's your favorite genre and why?
